About Jamaica Island
Although the warm sun of Jamaica makes the Island a tropical destination you want to visit, it’s the brilliant red sunsets of Jamaica that will make you wish you never had to leave. Jamaica is an Island that caters to the whole spectrum of tourists… from the family vacationers, to the newlyweds, even the lone traveler. The beauty of Jamaica lies in that the Island is whatever you want it to be. Enjoy the nightlife and all it’s rum, or spend your evening listening to the birds of the mountainous landscape. Spend your days lounging on a sandy scape without the presence of time, or indulge yourself in tours and explorations.
Kingston is Jamaica’s capital city and while it bustles with Jamaican culture, it is not the focal point of a vacation to the Island. The port city of Montego Bay is perhaps the tourist capital of Jamaica, home to some of the prime beaches, attractions, and resorts of Jamaica. If you’re looking to break away form the mainstream tourist appeals, there are plenty of spectacular places on the Island to enjoy the Island to it’s fullest.
Negril also caters to travelers, providing a friendly, laid back atmosphere for beach goers. Vendors supply water sports equipment along the stunning 6.8 mile long stretch of beach, against a true-to-post-card ocean meets sky backdrop. The beach in Negril is the perfect place for capturing those wicked red sunsets.
Cockpit Country is a spectacularly untouched part of Jamaica, un-penetrated by accessible roads. An enormously spectacular limestone plateau, Cockpit Country is seen and awed by small plane or helicopter excursions. The land is rich with unsoiled nature and wildlife, and the amazing aerial view will reveal the drama of the unique terrain.
Moving from high above to deep below, perhaps one of the most desirable points of Jamaica is the Blue Lagoon. The infamous Blue Lagoon is essentially a 52m- deep hole opening to the sea, which is fed by freshwater springs. The color of the Blue Lagoon makes it a truly astounding spot in the earth. Best of all, since the Blue Lagoon is public property, you are free to swim in the delight of ever changing brilliant shades of blue, green and aqua.
Jamaica’s historical locations are some of the best liked. The Nine Mile Museum is a tribute to the one and only Bob Marley, marking his birth and resting place. A guide will show you where Bob Marley spent his young years, as well as where his body lies buried with his guitar. Perhaps the most popular highlight of the tour, the ‘inspirational stone’ where he once sat and learned to play the guitar. Other historical hotspots in Jamaica include the Rose Hal Great House, the restored 18th century house which was home to the infamous murderer Annie Palmer, more commonly known as the White Witch of Rose Hall. Also, admirers of architecture and fine interiors should check out the St. James Parish Church.
